Advertising Regulations for California Realtors

It seems like there is a crazy maze of regulations when it comes to the rules of a Realtor’s advertising. There are rules about license numbers, broker names, logos, identifying who the “responsible broker” is, etc.

And each of these rules is somewhat different when it comes to business cards, postcards, for sale signs, social media posts, and paper flyers.

The California Association of Realtors has published a guide that attempts to give some clarity to this maze, and Dylan Raquel Real estate has provided a copy of it here.

Interesting highlights:

  • The company name, but NOT the company logo, must be included in For Sale signs, if the home is listed by a Realtor.
  • The BRE number of the agent must appear on the For Sale sign AND the Open House sign IF an agent's name appears on the sign.
  • The National Association of Realtors (N.A.R.) ethics rules, not the law, require that the name of your brokerage appear on signs. But they do NOT require that your brokerage's logo appear.
  • Social Media posts require you to have the brokerage's name and the agent's license number in them.
